I’m obsessed with a woman who’s nothing but trouble.
She’s feisty and tempting.
And she doesn’t let anything come in the way of her mission.
I’ve dealt with my fair share of rule-breakers.
So, Delilah isn’t what I need.
But I can’t stop dreaming about having her in my arms.
She might be hiding a secret.
A secret that could destroy me and burn the city to the ground.
There’s only one question that remains.
Is she worth the destruction that she’s about to cause?

“Can I ask you a question, firecracker?”
Delilah’s belly furled at his tone. It was leading somehow, and she wasn’t entirely sure
she would like where it was heading…
“I get the feeling you’re not being straight with me, Delle, and in some ways, that’s fair
enough.” He paused, those eyes searing into her. “I mean, we haven’t known each other
for that long and you’re entitled to your privacy.”
“But?” Delilah’s heart pounded as she prompted him, yet somehow, she had to know
what was on his mind.
“But I can’t help wanting to know more.” His hand rose to her hip, grazing her flesh
with feathery touches as it traveled to her arse. “I want to know you, Delilah.”
She gulped at that, closing her eyes momentarily. In her thirty-four years, no one had
ever made that sound so good. Or, maybe no one had ever told her it before. Her breath
caught at the thought.
“You seem…” Dalton hesitated and Delilah’s eyes fluttered back open.
“What?” she pressed him. “How do I seem?’
Dalton squeezed her left cheek, massaging the orb roughly and a fresh shoot of pain
surged through Delilah. She gasped at the hurt, her instincts telling her to pull away from
his hands, yet her sex begging her to stay where she was. However much the deed had
stung, it was nothing compared to the hot, wet craving that was building between her
egs again and her restrained hands reached for him, stroking his hardening cock.
“I don’t want to offend you.” His voice was soft, his gaze suggesting the sentiment
was genuine, but Delilah only giggled in response.
Here she was bound in his bed, having being thoroughly humbled by the man and now he
was worried about overstepping the mark?
“Don’t worry,” she assured him. “Whatever you’re going to say, I’m pretty sure I’ve heard
worse before.”
Dalton gazed down at her, “Maybe.”
“Please, sir,” Delilah implored him. “Speak your mind.”
He blew out a breath. “You seem so vulnerable, Delle.”
Her pulse quickened at his statement. “Underneath the hard exterior, I mean, and all that
fiery bravado, you seem like you just want somebody to look after you.”
Delilah’s lips parted. But she pressed them together again. How the hell was he able to do
this—he’d known her for a matter of days and somehow, Dalton was able to read her like
an open book.
“Maybe,” she breathed, trying not to let her shock show.
The corners of his mouth twitched at the gesture, suggesting she had failed in her defences.
“Is there anyone special?” Dalton probed. “Has there ever been?”
She pressed her forehead onto his chest. Delilah didn’t want to get into this conversation.
She couldn’t. Her guard had to remain up if she was going to survive this, and she
had to remember her mission objective. She was here to discover as much about Dalton
as she could and not the other way around, and yet somehow, the man was impossible to
deny. He’d mastered her so completely, but he was such a gentleman in every other way
It’s like he was trying to kill her with kindness.
And it was working.
That was the real killer— Delilah could feel it was working. Every moment she spent
with him she could sense her defences slipping away.
She was succumbing.
