Five Fact Thursday - please welcome Pamela Thibodeaux

Five facts about The Visionary....

The book is set in my native area of Lake Charles, Louisiana on a piece of property that once belonged in my family. I am a direct descendant of the LeBleus and my brother in law is a direct descendant of Julian Charles Sallier of whom Lake Charles is named after (also mentioned in the book).

I actually did the research Taylor uncovers about Laonise and Joseph LeBleu, and have a copy of the newspaper interview on 'Grandmaw Jo's' 100th birthday (also mentioned in the story).

The line from Titanic where Rose asks Jack to teach her to “ride like a man, chew like a man and spit like a man” could describe Grandmaw Jo to a T!  My mother remembered her great grandmother sitting on the porch with a gun across her lap and a spittoon clear on the other side of the porch LOL! The fact that she fought with a Yankee Captain over her horse proves she could ride like a man too.

The Pirate Jean LaFitte was a friend of Laonise and Joseph and slept not only in their barn, but a cabin down on the English Bayou which runs at the back of the property.

The old house described in chapter three...a mere box of a building with potbellied stove, antique wallpaper, plaster walls and boxed in staircase as well as the shutters with crosses carved in them... were described from memory. A pipe supply company now owns that property but, I visited that old homestead back in 1978 or 79 and vividly remember the house.

Blurb:

A visionary is someone who sees into the future Taylor Forrestier sees into the past but only as it pertains to her work. Hailed by her peers as “a visionary with an instinct for beauty and an eye for the unique” Taylor is undoubtedly a brilliant architect and gifted designer. But she and twin brother Trevor, share more than a successful business. The two share a childhood wrought with lies and deceit and the kind of abuse that’s disturbingly prevalent in today’s society.  Can the love of God and the awesome healing power of His grace and mercy free the twins from their past and open their hearts to the good plan and the future He has for their lives?

Excerpt:

“Thank you for taking such good care of me.”
“I’m not through yet,” he mumbled, then slid off the couch and swung her up in his arms.
Fear snuck in, darkening her eyes. She stiffened and opened her mouth to protest. He brushed his lips over hers and silenced her objections.
“I just want to hold you,” he whispered and laid his forehead against hers. “That’s all. I promise,” he added, unable to camouflage the need in his voice.
***
He’d offered her another step to relinquish her fear and trust him. Triumph lit his expressive eyes when she wrapped her arm around his neck, smiled, and whispered, “Okay,” then snuggled her face against his shoulder and let him carry her to the bedroom.
With exquisite tenderness, he laid her on the bed, crawled up beside her, and took her in his arms. Taylor felt the strength of his need in the heat and tensed against the hardness of his body. He eased his grip and propped up on one elbow beside her. His eyes pleaded for grace when he stroked the hair off her face and said in a soft, husky voice, “Please don’t be afraid of me; please trust me. I will never force or even persuade you to give more than you’re ready to.”
They gazed at each other for a long, tender moment. She cupped his cheek in her hand, brushed her thumb over his mouth, then curled her fingers in his hair and urged his head down to fasten her lips to his. A low moan escaped his throat, yet he held himself taut.
Taylor ran her hand over his shoulder and back in a soft caress then wrapped her arms around his waist. “Hold me, Alex, I trust you.”
The emotions reflected in his tone caressed her heart when he thanked her in that beautiful velvety-rough voice. He rolled onto his back, pulled the covers over her, and held her while she slept.

Meet Genevieve from Shadows of the past. #Eggcerptexchange

1. Please, have a seat. Make yourself comfortable Miss...
"Genevieve. My name is Genevieve, but Sister Clementa, the Abbess,  and some of her followers call me The witch."

2. Tell me, Genevieve, where are you living?
Genevieve ( a small sigh escapes her lips. Then she shrugs) "Well, for the moment I reside at St. Mary’s Abbey. On top of a mountain in Britain, in the...cursed forest."

3.  Do you have any schooling?
Genevieve  (nods and pats and invisible crease of her dress) "Kind  Old Bertha, who took care of me after my family perished, taught me to read and write. Not only English but also Latin. And, most important, she taught me how to prepare healing potions from plants and herbs. Perhaps that’s why the Abbess hates me so much. A peasant girl of the 13th century is dangerous if she knows more than her superiors, I think."

4. What are your worst fears or nightmare?
Genevieve (throws a shy look around her. She shivers and her voice is small) "I fear the cursed forest. This forest is responsible for what happened to my family. My father’s odd behavior, the death of my siblings. All the evil that lurks in it.
My nightmare - the Abbess, sister Clementa, who threatens me all the time with sending me to the stake. I can’t understand why she wants me out of the way."

5.  Is it anything that you secretly desire?
Genevieve (blushes and wrings her hands. Then she looks me directly in the eyes. Her voice is strong now. ) "To become Andrew’s wife and grow a family. If his family agrees....If the Abbess lets me go... If God  forgives me for giving up being a nun.....If I escape alive from the forest.... If....”

Teacher of English and German in her native country and mother of two daughters, Carmen Stefanescu survived the grim years of oppression, by escaping in a parallel world, that of the books.
She has dreamed all her life to become a writer, but many of the things she wrote during those years remained just drawer projects. The fall of the Ceausescu’s regime in 1989, and the opening of the country to the world meant a new beginning for her. She started publishing. Poems first, and then prose. Both in English.

Five Fact Thursday - please welcome Barbara Myers

Five Fun Facts About Ferrets

  1. A newborn ferret is so small it can fit in a tea spoon.
  2. Ferrets sleep an average of 18 hours a day.
  3. Caesar used ferrets for hunting and Aristotle wrote about them.
  4. Ferrets were given as gifts by Queen Victoria who raised albino ferrets.
  5. A loose ferret will typically die of starvation within 4 days.  They have no instinctive knowledge of what is or is not food.

Excerpt

The next morning, when Reif went to get a fast-food breakfast for them, Quinn insisted he bring the ferrets inside so they could run around for a bit. Reluctantly, Reif did so. He balled up the wrappers from his breakfast sandwich and hash browns and tossed them across the room for the ferrets. Their interest in them lasted about thirty seconds. Quinn and Reif had decided to drive straight through to Coral Bay, swapping the wheel every time they stopped for gas.
“The only thing is…” Quinn began.
“What?”
“Those two.” She pointed at the ferrets who were digging inside the waste paper can they’d knocked over. They managed to get the lid off an empty drink cup and the melted ice drained into the carpet. “We’ll have to let them out some of the time while we’re driving. They can’t be caged up for two whole days.”
Reif rubbed his eyelids. His eyes were still bloodshot but he wasn’t sneezing as much. “I’m going to need some more pills.”
When Quinn wasn’t driving she let the ferrets out for an hour or so, doing her best to keep them away from Reif. But once, when she was settling Pudge back into the carrier, Fudge leapt into the passenger seat. He seemed to like Reif. Quinn wasn’t a hundred percent sure, but she thought Reif’s attitude toward the wily creatures had softened a bit. Fudge set his feet on the center console and sniffed Reif’s sleeve, then gave a tiny sneeze.
Reif picked up his package of allergy medication and held it out to the ferret. “Want one?”

Come and meet Jem. #EggcerptExchange

Author Michelle Abbott writes new adult romance. She currently has four books published.

Interview with Jem

1.  Job?
I work at an amusement arcade, fixing the machines when they go wrong, handing out change and that kind of thing. It pays my bills, it’s local and the hours suit me.

2. Currently residing in...?
Hemsby in Norfolk. I’ve got a trailer right by the sea. There’s nothing like walking along the beach every morning. It keeps me calm.

3. Level of schooling, or self-taught?
I had to quit school when I was small because my asshole of a father moved us all at the last minute after someone reported him to social services for child cruelty. He never enrolled me in another school. I taught myself all I need to know.

4. Favorite food?
Don’t have one. I eat to live, I don’t live to eat.

5. Most important goal?

To get Devon to remember me and love me again. To take care of her and show her that I never forgot her and never stopped loving her.

JEM
Two injured, stubborn souls meet unexpectedly. Will they save each other from their demons or have they been too damaged for too long to see past the pain?

Growing up, all Jem knew was hatred and the pain from his father's fists. Taunted by the kids at school, he was alone, until a girl with carrot coloured hair sat next to him.

She smiled.
She listened.
She cared.

She was his angel, and he knew he’d love her forever. But Jem’s father hurts him in a way he never expected by taking him away from her.

Now eighteen, scarred inside and out, Jem trusts no one and has worked hard to ensure he'll never be helpless again. But then he runs into his angel. The only problem is she doesn’t recognize him. Jem needs her to remember him, to show him that their time together meant to her what it did to him. For once in his life he wants to have mattered to someone, to her.

Devon is attracted to the muscular, tattooed, pierced hottie standing by the pub quiz machine. That is, until he punches a guy clean across the bar for daring to touch him. She’s had her fill of violent men and intends to avoid this one at all costs.
Excerpt from JEM
Jem

I stomp along the beach. “She don’t remember me. She doesn’t even know who I am.” I kick my foot through the sand. “I recognized her right away.” I unclench my fists, pick up a stone and hurl it into the sea. “I mean what the hell.” I stare down at Rex. “All that shit she said about being my best friend. She didn’t mean any of it. I haven’t even crossed her mind. She hasn’t got a clue who I am.” Rex looks up at me, his tail between his legs. “Well say something.”

“He’s a dog, Jem. Dogs can’t talk.”

I start; I didn’t realize Maddy was here. She’s holding a mug. “I made some coffee. Do you want one?”

She’s dressed in black sweatpants and a long, baggy, black t-shirt. I glare at her. “Where you off to? A funeral?”

She arches her eyebrow. “Yeah, yours if you don’t calm down. What’s wrong?”

I snap my fingers for Rex to follow as I head off towards our trailer. “Nothing,” I call over my shoulder. “I’m over it already.”

She follows behind me. “Yeah, sounds like it. So do you want a coffee?”

“Nah. I’m going for a work-out.”

I take Rex back to his owner and then I head to the children’s playground on the trailer site and am glad to find it empty. I rub my hands down the legs of my sweatpants and then reach up to grab hold of the monkey bars. I begin my pull ups. I can feel the tension in my muscles as I pull myself up for the thirtieth time. What is Devon doing here? I grunt as I go for number thirty-one. She can’t have been here long; I would have seen her before now if she had. I let go of the bar and rub my hand over my biceps. I pull myself up one more time, hook my legs over the bar and begin my stomach exercises. She must be here on vacation. I try to focus on my work-out but all I can see is her face. Damn she looked beautiful. She still has that mane of red hair. “Argh.” I hook my hands behind my head and work myself until my stomach muscles burn. It doesn’t help. I get down from the bars and wipe the sweat out of my eyes.

Back in my trailer I pour myself some coffee, dump thee spoonfuls of sugar into my mug and stir. I glance around. “This place looks like a bomb has hit it.” Maddy’s bed sheet is crumpled and her duvet is half on the bed and half on the floor. “You’re such a slob.”

“Sheesh. You got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning.” She places some slices of bread under the grill. “I’ve just woken up. We don’t all make our beds like we’ve been in the army. Neat freak.”

I pick up my mug and sit down at the table. “I’m not a freak. I never had much when I was growing up, so I look after my stuff.” I take a sip of my coffee.

“Do you want some toast?” Maddy butters the toast without waiting for my reply.

“Yeah, I guess.”

She holds up a jar. “Do you want strawberry jam?”

“Yeah, whatever.”

She’s about to dip the knife into the jam jar. “Hey, don’t do that.” I get up and slide the jar away from her. “Clean the knife first. You’ll get butter in the jam.”

She reaches for the jar. “It’s my jam. I bought it.” She stares at me, grins and then repeatedly jabs the buttered knife into the jam. “And I can do what I want with it, Mr I’m So Not Over It Already.”

Ah hell. It’s not her fault; I shouldn’t take it out on her. I snatch up a slice of toast. “I’ll pass on the jam.” I reach across and mess up her hair. “Thanks Imp. I’m gonna get ready for work.”

I shove the toast in my mouth and head for the shower. I turn up the heat and step under the spray. I squeeze shower gel into my palm and rub briskly over my skin. I can feel the scars that are hidden beneath my tatts. Scars from a life I want to forget. I wish I could forget her as easily as she’s forgotten me. I turn the heat up and rest my forehead against the tiles as the scalding water runs down my back. Dammit. I pound my fist against the wall. I didn’t matter to her. I don’t want to think about her. I shut off the water, grab a towel and rub it over my hair and body. I pull on my jeans and my white tee and head back into the kitchen to grab another coffee.

Michelle Abbott lives in the UK and hates describing herself in 3rd person.

She  loves to write new adult romance about heroes who begin as the underdog and are protective of their girl.
She's an avid reader of romance, is addicted to coffee and loves wine and chocolate, so yeah, not the most healthy eating and drinking habits :-) She spends way too much time online when she should be writing. She collects teddy bears and occasionally knits a couple of rows on a sweater she started years ago, which she may eventually finish in time to wear for her funeral :-)

Blurb for IT Exec’s Baby

Brie Sullivan has a new baby girl and there are a million things to do, but Brie doesn’t have the energy to keep up. Why? She’s still grieving for her husband and suffering from baby blues, but she won’t let that stop her. She’s come up with the answer--find a new husband to be the father of her kids.
Jason Clark has been doing everything he can to help Brie. He loves her but can he accept her proposal of marriage knowing she’s not thinking clearly about the future?

Comments from Reviews for IT Exec’s Baby
(2nd book of the Executive Wives Club series)

“IT Exec’s Baby is almost a love story in reverse. The marriage comes first, then the sex, and finally the love - at least from Brie's point of view. It is tender and poignant at times, and full of strong descriptive passages.”

“What I love about series books. Every book gives you more about the characters that you've fallen in love with during the first book.”

“IT Exec’s Baby is a riveting story of a woman with numerous problems.”

Excerpt:

Jason settled into the rocker. A slight whimper escaped from the baby, he quickly fed the bottle back into her daughter's mouth.
“Yes, but at least I don’t have to pick them up. I'm in a carpool with another mother down the street.” Brie fluffed her pillow and crawled into bed. The soft cushion of the mattress cupping her body, she melted against the sheets. Peace teased her mind at the luxury of not having to jump up again in two seconds.
“So you've been able to get some rest during the day?”
“No, that's when I try to get everything else done.” Brie reviewed the chores she hadn't accomplished today. Laundry—half done. Dishwasher—still not unloaded. Formula—damn she only had two bottles left.
“Why? What can't wait?” Jason’s question made it sound like she didn't have two other children to take care of.
“Well, there are meals to fix, which reminds me, I have to make a run to the grocery store tomorrow.” She quickly glanced at the night stand to see if there was any paper available. She better make a list.
“Don’t worry about it now. Just try to get some sleep.” The soothing tone of his voice lulling her senses, she closed her eyes.
Visions of Eric floated through her thoughts...him getting up at night, bringing the baby back to her, his help in the evening with the chores, his steady presence when she was too exhausted to go on. “I need a second set of hands.”
An idea popped into her head. The perfect solution. She just needed to get married.
Forcing her eyes open, she rolled to her side and stared at the man holding her daughter. He wasn’t married and didn't mind her kids. If they could join forces, all would be good.
Excited by the possibility, she sat, the covers falling to her waist. “That's it. I need a husband.” Lifting her voice, she stared into a pair of sexy brown eyes. “Jason, will you marry me?”
