Carjacked or Kidnapped? #LabourDay #MFRWHooks #romance

Today's hook comes from Submission, Secrets, and the Soldier.

It's Number four in a series of stand-alone stories, all set in Westhorpe Ridge, and all featuring former service men.

It features a Dom with PTSD, a heroine who's too eager to please, and the most romantic Labor Day parade ever.

Excerpt from Submission, Secrets, and the Soldier

Kathryn paled and stared at the gun. Her brow furrowed in confusion. He wasn’t hurt at all. This crash was a setup to stop passing cars. Carjack them, maybe, but he’d need an accomplice for that. Her brain worked overtime, but her body froze. How did I end up looking down the wrong end of gun? I only stopped to help. She was on the back road to nowhere. If he shot her, nobody would find her body for weeks.

Kathryn felt rooted to the spot. “I haven’t anything valuable with me, but my keys are in the car’s ignition. Take it and let me go. Please.”
He lifted his free hand and backhanded her cheek. “One more word, and I’ll pull the trigger.”

The slap caught her off guard, snapping her head to the right and making her squeal. Off balance, she toppled sideways and sprawled on the road.
Luke roared and shot toward them, but the supposed accident victim pointed his gun at Kathryn’s head. “Bring it on, pal, and watch me put a bullet in her brain.”

Luke froze and lifted his hands, one on either side of his head. “Okay. Okay. I won’t give you any trouble. What do you want?”

The gunman stood slowly. A cold grin spread over his face as he pulled Kathryn to her feet and held the gun against her temple. “I don’t want nothing, but Mr. Farlaise wants his pound of flesh. She’s valuable, but you’re collateral damage. One false move, and you’re dead.”

Farlaise? Kathryn shook her head. Farlaise had gone on the run, or so Sean said. She’d thought the property developer had headed off to Mexico. Instead, he’d hid out in North Carolina. Her brain felt like cotton candy. Fear chilled her blood, but being held at gunpoint addled her wits. Nothing made sense. Why had this thug come after her? Who’d used Farlaise’s ticket on American Airlines flight? A trusted employee, perhaps? And what did Farlaise want with her?

Surely, he knew by now that she didn’t have his money. How could she be of value? Nonentity, remember. Even Smithson, Westhorpe, and Walters’s accountant had tossed her to the wolves when he insisted Farlaise’s missing cash was nothing to do with the law firm.
