Christmas trees, a Yule log and Christmas Crackers. Three Christmas traditions explained #Christmas #romance #tradition #kindleunlimited

The Christmas Tree

Perhaps the most well-known symbol of Christmas. It has its roots in the pagan practice of bringing a tree into the home and decorating it with dried food to feed the spirits. 16th Century German preacher, Martin Luther adopted the tradition after walking through a forest at night. He looked up and saw the stars twinkling through the branches. He claimed it reminded him of Jesus who left the stars and came to earth.
When he brought a tree into his church and decorated it, the modern Christmas tree was born.

The Yule Log

Again, this has its roots in the Pagan celebration of the solstice.
People would find a suitable tree, bring it home, and burn it over the solstice. Oak is the traditional wood used as a Yule log. Burning oak brings healing, strength and wisdom into the home.
If you use Pine your home will enjoy prosperity and grow. A Holly log will inspire visions while Birch, which is traditionally used in Scotland signifies new beginnings. Other woods have different properties. Ash brings protection, prosperity, and health while Aspen gives understanding of the grand design
In a throwback to pagan origins, burning a Willow Yule log is asking the Goddess for help achieving your desires.

The modern take on this is  a rich, chocolate covered cake decorated to resemble a wooden log.

Christmas Crackers - a British Tradition to make you groan.

Ask any child “What’s the most important thing about Christmas?”
They’ll tell you “Presents.”
In 1847 Tom Smith created a novel way of giving small, surprise gifts. Imagine an oversize sweet paper, brightly colored and about a foot long. Inside there’s a small gift. It can be anything from a cheap plastic fortune telling fish to a pearl necklace. It depends how much you pay for your cracker. There’s a bad joke, designed to make everyone groan, and a paper crown.
The cracker gets its name from the added snap. It’s a long, slim piece of paper treated to come apart with bang when pulled from both ends. Sadly, this means crackers are prohibited on American planes.
Want some examples of “bad” cracker jokes?

What does Santa suffer from if he gets stuck in a chimney?
Claustrophobia.

What do they sing on a snowman’s birthday?
Freeze a jolly good fellow.

What’s a dog’s favorite carol?
Bark the Herald angels sing.

Can you imagine a Christmas without the traditional celebrations? That’s what Abigail’s endured for years. Now she’s a respected schoolteacher who makes Christmas special for her class. She’s always dreamed of someone making it special for her.

A stand alone romance and Book One of the Heroes of Westhorpe Ridge Trilogy

Kryssie Fortune writes the sort of hot sexy books she loves to read. If she can sneak a dragon into her paranormal books she will. Her paranormal heroes are muscular werewolves, arrogant Fae or BDSM loving dragons.

Kryssie likes her contemporary heroes ex-military and dominant. When it comes to Regency Romance, her heroes are brooding survivors of Waterloo.

Her heroines are kick ass females who can hold their own against whatever life - or Kryssie - throws at them.

Kryssie's pet hates are unhappy endings, and a series that end on a cliff hanger.

Her books are all stand alone even when part of series. Plot always comes before sex, but when her heroines and heroes get together, the sex is explosive and explicit. One review called it downright sensual.
