When Hannah goes to the wedding as someone’s date, she doesn’t expect to leave with the groom.

Blurb
Hannah Hansen is only hoping for one thing this Christmas: someone to share her life. She's not asking for the hottest male model, but please Santa, could he be a little bit alpha? Sensitive new age guys make great friends, but men who are decisive and slightly bossy make her tingle all over.

Then handsome, rich Steve Shewchuk invites her to be his last-minute, plus one at a wedding. Hannah's hopes soar as Steve's definitely the dominant type. But before their date is off the ground, Hannah realizes she has made a mistake. Steve's veneer of an appealing alpha personality hides his thoughtless self absorption. In response to a call from the distressed bride-to-be, he drops Hannah a block from the church, forcing her to walk through a driving rainstorm, alone.

Hannah arrives at the church, soaked to the skin, with her expensive hairdo ruined. She realizes her hopes for a future with Steve have washed down the drain along with her mascara. When the groom, charming Charles Descôteaux helps her in her moment of distress, there is an instant, electrical connection between them.

Could Charles be the assertive man she's been hoping for? When Charles needs her help, will she be brave enough to rally to his side?

Ever since her ex married someone else, Hannah has been hoping for true romance. Will she find it at someone else’s wedding?

Excerpt:

Wide-eyed with disbelief, people looked from Hannah to Charles back again. A few smiled, enjoying the dramatic change in events. The bride’s family in the front rows on the other side of the church glared at Hannah.

A slow grin crept over Charles’s face.
“Quite right,” Charles said, sliding his finger around the collar of his shirt again. “I’ve spoken to the Halsey Club and told them to move up the program for tonight. They are expecting the first of our guests to start arriving shortly. There is an open bar. Hors d'oeuvres are being prepared as I speak. A band has been booked so there will be dancing after one of the club’s legendary dinners. Hannah and I hope you will join us.”

A few people stood and pushed toward them, but Charles held onto Hannah’s hand. “We’ll see you at the Halsey Club,” he said and turned off the microphone. Robert was signaling them from the chapel, so Charles led Hannah there at a quick trot.
The three of them ran out into the rain and Robert pointed down the block. “I’m parked back there. Run for it.”

Charles was careful not to run any faster than Hannah could manage, and she appreciated that he understood how pumps, even with low heels, slowed a person down. Robert got to the four-door sedan before them and opened both the passenger door and backseat door before hopping behind the wheel.

Charles closed the passenger door and ushered Hannah into the backseat. Then he ran around and climbed in beside her from the driver’s side. He tapped Robert’s shoulder, “To the Halsey Club, James.”

Then he threw his head back and gave one long hoot of laughter. He brought Hannah’s hand to his lips and kissed her knuckles. “Who are you and what the hell did you just do?”

Hannah saw Robert glance at her in the rearview mirror, waiting for her answer.

“I’m Hannah Hansen. Mild-mannered accountant by day, undiscovered improv genius and agent provocateur by night.”

“What’s an agent provocateur?” Robert asked.
“No idea,” Hannah said, enjoying being so close to Charles tall muscular body.

“A general shit disturber.” Charles closed his hands around hers. “You’re shivering.”

“Can’t deny it,” Hannah said. “I’ve been soaked twice in one night. That tends to make me cold.”

When Charles wrapped a muscular arm around her shoulder, she felt instantly warmer, as though he’d pulled her into a protective force field.

Robert said, “I don’t know what possessed you to get up and claim responsibility for canceling the wedding, but I personally want to thank you. Charles was going to wing it but if he’s not talking about the night sky, he can be a very boring speaker. We could still be in the church waiting for him to stutter out answers while people grilled him.”

“When you’ve got a restless crowd, you have to get in front of them,” Hannah said. “Your parents were kind of freaking out. I thought it might help if I drew all the fire onto me. So I started improvising. And I hinted at love spurned because everyone loves a romance. Everyone who has a heart that is.”

Charles chuckled. “But they’re going to know it’s not true. I only just met you.”

“But they won’t figure that out immediately. And now they’ve got a bit of a mystery too. Everyone loves a mystery. Well everyone who has the slightest bit of curiosity does.”

“What were you going to say to the gathered masses, big brother? Got any ideas?”

“Not offhand,” Charles admitted. “But I’m sure if I stood there long enough, I would have thought of something.”

Libby Campbell in her own words:
My romance novels feature strong, self-reliant women and the powerful men who love them. Romantic by nature, I write the stories I want to read: those that feature a spicy power exchange and deliver a sting in the tale.
Canadian by birth, I also lived in Australia for a couple of decades. While living there I overcame my aversion to saucer-sized spiders and, as a condition of marriage to my Aussie Prince Charming, I swore a lifelong allegiance to the Melbourne Football Club.
Then family called and my husband and I packed up and moved. We now live on a rocky island on Canada’s West Coast, close to beaches that once were frequented by smugglers and rumrunners.
My passions are reading and writing. I adore all animals and love hiking, beachcombing, and an occasional night of dancing.
